Malaysia Budget 2025
October 2024Malaysia's budget for 2025 included some amendments.
A new 2% tax on dividend income exceeding RM 100,000 will be imposed on individual shareholders.
A new investment incentive framework is also included in the proposed budget.
Malaysia new tax 2023
June 2023With the announcement of the Malaysia Budget 2023, an individual with a taxable income of between RM 50,001 and RM 70,000 can enjoy a reduction in tax from 13% to 11%.
The tax rate for those falling within the RM 70,001 to RM 100,000 bracket is also reduced from 21% to 19%.
Malaysia GST Update
June 2018Starting June 1, 2018 the GST, goods and services tax, in Malaysia was reduced from previous 6% to zero.
Malaysia Tourism Tax
September 2017Starting August 1, 2017 the tourism tax is imposed on hotels in Malaysia.
The tax rate is MYR 10 per night per room.
Permanent residents and Malaysian citizens are exempt from the tax.
Malaysia GST
April 2015Starting April 1, 2015 a 6% goods and services tax, GST, applies in Malaysia.
The GST replaces the sales tax, ranging 5%-10% and the 6% service tax . The reporting and payment of the GST is on a monthly or quarterly basis depending on the annual turnover of the supplier.
